(WICHITA, Kan.) — “The bats were really cool because you don’t see those every day,” says 10 year-old Jordyn Elliott and her friend Elizabeth Hill who were at the Sedgwick County Zoo Wednesday afternoon.

These girls are some of the 800 people out at the zoo today to see the animals and enjoy Spring Break.

The rain has kept some people indoors but there are museum and animal exhibits across Wichita to help you get out of the house and enjoy the week off.

Melissa Grahm from the zoo says that they have seen about thousand people this Spring Break, about half the number at this time last year. But she says this weather doesn’t keep the animals from putting on a show.

“We also have a lot of indoor exhibits that are also great,” says Grahm. “It seems like just about every other exhibit has some sort of indoor capacity to it. So if you can scurry from exhibit to exhibit, you can certainly get to an indoor facility to see some really cool animals.”

At Tanganyika Wildlife Park, you can see a six-month old Honey Badger named Diablo. He is only the second raised in captivity in the United States.

“We always have new babies,” said Matt Fouts of Tanganyika Wildlife Park. “This year, the biggest one is Diablo who was born last October. This is the first opportunity the public has had to see him.”

If you don’t want to visit animals, you can also take a ride in the T-33 Simulator at the Kansas Aviation Museum. The Museum of World Treasurers is opening a new exhibit called “Lock Stock and Barrel.”

You can visit all of these exhibits through the rest of the week and learn more about them on our website.
