Youngster back home after being struck by a car in College Hill

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Update: A five-year-old is recovering at home after being struck by a car Tuesday afternoon.  

Police say the boy darted out into the street, and the driver who hit him could not stop in time.  No charges wlll be filed agains the driver.

Police say the boy was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but has since been released.

Note: Initial reports from the scene indicated the boy is six years old, we have since learned he is five.

A 5-year-old is in serious condition Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle. The accident happened at 1st Street and Clifton Avenue in Wichita, near College Hill Elementary.

School officials say the car had the right of way and the student ran into the street and was hit. The Wichita Police Department confirms that the child was at fault.

The driver and witnesses confirm that the driver tried to stop and was skidding to a stop when the child was hit according to police.

The student has minor scrapes and bruises and was taken to Wesley Hospital.
