Ice storm expected by afternoon - April Fools. Unless you're planning on dumping the cooler, you packed to take to the lake on your head. This is "No Joke" however, In Wichita, our forecast is 87, while the record high for the date is 89, set back in 1903. We expect a record high for Garden City where the mercury should top out at 91. The current record is 87, which was established in 1964. Along with the heat, expect very low humidity in the air and with gusty south to southwest winds, the fire danger will be extremely high for portions of western Kansas.
A break from the record heat will head our way on Monday, in the form of an upper level storm system and cold front. It will bring increasing clouds, while the cold front will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms by late afternoon. Monday afternoon highs will drop into the 60s and 70s out west while eastern Kansas holds on to readings in the lower to middle 80s for one more day.
The system will linger across Kansas Tuesday and Wednesday, so expect lots of clouds along with scattered showers and a few rumbles. High temperatures will only reach the 60s.
