El Dorado woman charged in daughter's death

(EL DORADO, Kan.) — Prosecutors in Butler County have charged a 23-year-old woman with first-degree murder.

Alyssa Haag appeared in an El Dorado courtroom Wednesday afternoon. She listened tearfully as the judge read the charges against her.

Haag was arrested on Monday, three days after her 18-month-old daughter Jayla died. The girl taken to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital last week.  

The child's injuries caused enough concern that police were called in to investigate. The child died after being transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Haag did not enter a plea. The judge set bail at $500,000.

Haag requested a public defender. She will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 9.
