{NORMAL, Ill.} — Illinois State scored a run in the ninth to defeat Wichita State 6-5 in game two of a three-game series. The Shockers fell behind 4-0 and 5-1, but rallied to tie the score at five in the seventh.
Micah Green went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Johnny Coy went 2-for-4. Cale Elam took the loss as he pitched 0.2 innings and gave up the winning run on three hits in the ninth.
The Redbirds picked up a couple of runs in the first inning. Shocker starter Mitch Mormann walked the leadoff batter and hit the next Redbird to put two runners on with no outs. After a sacrifice bunt, Zac Johnson doubled both of them in for a 2-0 lead.
ISU tacked on another run in the second inning and another in the third to go in front 4-0.
Casey Gillaspie walked with one out in the fourth and Ryan Hege doubled to left-center to put runners at second and third with one out. Micah Green grounded out to third to drive in Gillaspie to cut the lead to 4-1.
