WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita erupted for seven goals in the second period and blew by the Texas Brahmas with an 8-1 win Sunday afternoon at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Thunder takes a 2-0 lead in the Berry Conference Finals as the series will shift to North Richland Hill, TX on Wednesday night.
Adam Hogg got things started at 2:47 of the first period to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Wichita has yet to score the first goal of the game in the playoffs, but the Thunder responded just past the midway point of the opening frame. Matt Robinson was rewarded a penalty shot and cashed in, beating Fogal through the legs and started a stretch of eight unanswered goals for the Thunder.
In the second period, Wichita took the lead for good when Alex Bourret (5) scored a shorthanded break-a-way goal at 1:18 to make it 2-1. Aaron Davis and Thomas Beauregard got into the act, scoring the next four between the two players to extend the lead to 6-1 in a seven-minute span. Davis finished with his first two goals of the post-season and Beauregard (3) also had two. Matt Summers scored his first of the post-season to make it 7-1 at 17:19 and Chris Greene (2) bookended the period with a shorthanded goal to make it 8-1 as the Thunder cruised in Game two.
