WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita erupted for seven goals in the second period and blew by the Texas Brahmas with an 8-1 win Sunday afternoon at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Thunder takes a 2-0 lead in the Berry Conference Finals as the series will shift to North Richland Hill, TX on Wednesday night.

Adam Hogg got things started at 2:47 of the first period to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Wichita has yet to score the first goal of the game in the playoffs, but the Thunder responded just past the midway point of the opening frame. Matt Robinson was rewarded a penalty shot and cashed in, beating Fogal through the legs and started a stretch of eight unanswered goals for the Thunder.

In the second period, Wichita took the lead for good when Alex Bourret (5) scored a shorthanded break-a-way goal at 1:18 to make it 2-1. Aaron Davis and Thomas Beauregard got into the act, scoring the next four between the two players to extend the lead to 6-1 in a seven-minute span. Davis finished with his first two goals of the post-season and Beauregard (3) also had two. Matt Summers scored his first of the post-season to make it 7-1 at 17:19 and Chris Greene (2) bookended the period with a shorthanded goal to make it 8-1 as the Thunder cruised in Game two.

Wichita's seven goals in one period in the playoffs stands as the most in the 11 years since the CHL and Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) merger.

Adam Russo continued his strong post-season, stopping 29 of 30 shots and improving his record to 6-1. A total of 10 players cracked the score sheet for Wichita with seven of them registering multiple-point games. Jarred Mohr's +6 ties the highest plus minus in a single CHL playoff game (Steve Weidlich - Laredo, 2004).

Wichita set a new franchise mark in one playoff season with two more shorthanded goals tonight and have five so far in the playoffs. The Thunder also registered its second game in which they scored two shorthanded goals this post-season.

Matt Robinson's penalty shot goal was just the second penalty shot tally for the Thunder in the playoffs all-time. The last time a member of the Thunder scored a penalty shot in the playoffs was Travis Clayton in 2005 against Bossier-Shreveport.

Wichita went 0-for-2 on the man advantage while the Brahmas were 0-for-6.

The Thunder lead the best-of-seven series 2-0 with Game three taking place Wednesday evening in North Richland Hills, TX.
