LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - — Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self announced Monday that freshman forward Merv Lindsay had been granted a release to transfer to another school.
Lindsay appeared in 12 games during the 2011-12 season in which Kansas went 32-7, won itss eighth-straight Big 12 regular-season title and advanced to its 14th Final Four, finishing runner-up. The 6-7 Moreno Valley, Calif., native averaged 2.2 minutes per game and scored 11 points. Lindsay's best outing of the season was a nine-point effort on 4-of-5 shooting against Howard on Dec. 29. His other points came at Texas Tech in Big 12 play. Lindsay played in seven league contests.
"Merv is not a good young man, he is a terrific young man," Self said. "He has done well in school and he has impacted our program on the practice court and in the locker room in a very positive way. We're going to do everything we can to support and assist him. He's leaving here with a great taste in his mouth as we are with him. At this time he is at square one and we're just looking into it, but he has been granted his release."
