(WICHITA, Kan.) — United Way of the Plains has established a new, ongoing location for the volunteer reception center. Beginning Wednesday, April 18, volunteers wishing to help with tornado cleanup are asked to report to the Oaklawn Activity Center, 4904 S. Clifton, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Volunteers should be at least 14 years old. Some projects require volunteers to be at least 18 years old. Volunteers are asked to bring any tools they would like to use for the cleanup work.
The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is advising those wishing to donate to the relief of people affected by the massive storm system that hit the state April 14 to call the United Way 2-1-1 number.
“It seems that as soon as a disaster hits, the calls start coming in from people asking how they can help,” said Angee Morgan, deputy director of KDEM. “Calling 2-1-1 is one of the best and fastest ways to do that.”
