Spirit employees back Monday; paid as normal this week

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Spirit AeroSystems announced Wednesday that "for this week, employees will be paid per their normal schedule, as if they were normal workdays. Previous information regarding timekeeping issues/directions may be disregarded."

Previously, Spirit told employees they would have to use vacation days or sick leave to be paid for the days the company did not call people into work due to storm damage.

The aviation company also said Wednesday that its is goal to bring its Wichita workforce back on Monday, April 23, to restart production.

“We are committed to doing what we have to do to bring our factory up and running by Monday,” said Spirit AeroSystems President and CEO Jeff Turner.

“Spirit has made very good progress with our recovery plan this week. Now it’s time to bring our entire Wichita team safely back to work, with the flexibility and responsiveness to serve the needs of our customers.”

Once production resumes, the company would then work on quickly ramping back up to full-rate production.

Spirit crews have been working around the clock since Saturday night’s tornado to assess the damage, build and work recovery plans, clear debris and restore basic services to the site.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty,” said Turner. “It has to be safe and operational, and allow us to produce quality products on a regular drumbeat to meet our customer needs.”

Employee notice
For the remainder of this week, Wichita employees who have not received a call from their manager should not report to work.
