Don Lambert homered the first two runs of the game and doubled home the final two, as Wichita State beat Kansas State 9-7 in 15 innings Tuesday in Manhattan.
The Shockers built an early 6-1 lead behind Mitch Moorman, but couldn’t hold on. The Wildcats had only five hits in the game, but two of them were homers which produced 6 runs and a 7-6 KSU lead going into the 8th. WSU junior Ryan Hege tied the game7-7 in the 8th and for the third straight Tuesday the Shockers went to extra innings. Finally, in the 15th, Lambert ripped a pitch down the right field line for the winning margin.
Wichita State improves to 25-19, Kansas State falls to 19-22. The two teams meet next Tuesday at Eck Stadium in Wichita.
