(WICHITA, Kan.) — For the first time since 1998, the Wichita Thunder head to the CHL finals.

The two-time CHL champions will take on the Fort Wayne Komets in a best of seven game series, starting Saturday in Game 1 at Intrust Bank Arena.

The Thunder ripped their way to the Governor's Cup, given to the best regular season record in the CHL, getting 91 points with a 44-19 record. The 91 points sets a CHL record for points amassed in the regular season.

Thos hoping for a Missouri/Wichita series were shutout Thursday night when the Komets topped Missouri 6-4 in Game 7 of the Turner Conference finals.

The Finals pits the two best teams in the league together for the President's Cup. The Thunder are trying to become just the first team in the CHL to win three championships.

Starting goalie Adam Russo leads the CHL in total save percentage with a salty 1.88 but just 8-3 in the playoffs this season.

The series is off for a 2-3-2 format, giving Fort Wayne three home games in a row on Thursday, Saturday and Monday, if necessary that they need a fifth game.

Thunder are undefeated at home in the postseason and haven't lost when leading after the second period.

Games 1 and 2 are home this weekend before they hit the road for Fort Wayne.
