Bond pick-up leads to armed confrontation

(WICHITA, Kan.) — An effort to pick-up a woman who skipped bond ends with an armed confrontation.

The Wichita Police Department says four bail bondsmen went to the 1500 block of north Hillside to try and take a 22-year-old woman into custody. Investigators say someone else tried to intervene and keep her from going to jail.

One of the bondsmen tells police the man who intervened pulled a gun on them, so the bondsmen pulled their own guns. The bondsmen say the man took off before police arrived.

When officers arrived the woman was taken into custody. The man is still out there and police want to question him about what happened. No one was hurt. Police are still trying to determine if the bondsmen were legally armed.
