(WICHITA, Kan.) — A 4 hour standoff ends early Friday morning , when Wichita police arrest a man they say shot a high powered rifle into his neighborhood near Harry and Greenwich.
Now we're getting a better look at how close those bullets came to injuring one family.
"The sliding door, its broken," said homeowner Lily Nguyen. "Over here, the gun shoot a hole in here."
Bullets pierced through walls, and shattered two glass doors inside the Nguyen's home. One even left a tennis ball sized hole in their front window.
It all happened while the Nguyen were sitting in their living room with their three young daughters ages 9, 5 and 2.
"Last night she don't cry," Lily Nguyen said. "I told her to lay down on floor and she lay down on floor."
That's when they called 911. The shots came from a home on the 11100 block of Long Lake.
When police arrived, they confronted the 21-year old gunman.
"We had to deploy a taser, but it was not successful," said Wichita Police Deputy Chief Nelson Mosley. "He got back into the house. At that point we cordoned off the house, surrounded it and swat was called."
Four hours later, the suspect surrendered peacefully and now faces multiple charges.
The family has lived here for 7 years, but have never met their neighbor across the lake. They don't know why he decided to open fire on their home.
Police are also looking into whether the man shot into the lake, and the bullets ricocheted off the water.
The Nguyens now are cleaning up the damage. They should have all their windows replaced before the weekend.
"I think we very lucky, we don't get hurt," Nguyen said.
But she says it may take time to forget about what happened here Thursday night, especially for the little ones.
Police say they found 3 rifles and a hand gun when they searched the suspect's home after his arrest.
