Greensburg transformed 5-years later

(GREENSBURG, Kan.) — Five years ago, a western Kansas town was nearly wiped off the map. Today, the community gathers to show how they've transformed Greensburg from rubble to something unique.

Today was a day to celebrate a recovery that many say was nothing short of remarkable.

Greensburg resident, Judy Kirk says, "It has been really fun to see people enjoying what has built and what has been done."

People who lived through the tornado and recovery welcomed visitors, some of whom are getting their first look at a new Greensburg. A Greensburg that has embraced renewable energy.

"The fact that you go through this part of the state and see all this new construction I think points to an energy in the region that has long standing repercussions," says Jay Price, visiting from Wichita.

"It's like the new town has been created and we've come home to our new town," says Kirk.

The festival which is called, "From Tragedy to Triumph," continues Sunday. Out of town visitors are invited to come.
