Storm Team 12: Clouds break, cooler today

May 20, 2012|By Meteorologist Dean Jones | Storm Team 12

The cold front that moved through last night and sparked severe thunderstorms and a few tornadoes across southcentral Kansas has moved into Oklahoma this morning.  A few lingering showers and rumbles of thunder continue across western Kansas but will continue to weaken as the morning progresses.  Mostly cloudy skies will turn to mostly sunny skies in the west, with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies developing by afternoon in the east.  Highs in the 70s to near 80 statewide!

It will be partly cloudy statewide tonight with temperatures dropping into the 40s and lower 50s.  A nice night to open up the windows and enjoy some fresh cool air.

Back to school and work on Monday with plenty of sunshine and temperatures near normal for late May.  Highs are expected to reach the upper 70s and 80s.

The heat and wind will return for the rest of the week.
