(WICHITA, Kan.) — Residents in LaCrosse and Russell spent much of Saturday cleaning up damage left behind by severe weather.

In Russell County, one person was injured after several tornadoes touched down Friday night.  Russell County officials say the person was hurt when a tornado destroyed their mobile home south of I-70.  The person was taken to the hospital. The patient's condition is unknown at this time.

Also in Russell County, several outbuildings and homes were damaged.  Local officials will continue to assess the damage today.

One building, a farm shed/storage barn, car wash, and three camping trailers were destroyed.  Tree limbs, power lines and poles are down as a result of the storm. Downed power lines forced the closure of U.S. 183 north of town and K-4 west of town.  No injuries were reported. The county will continue to assess damage Saturday.

State assistance was not requested, and the Kansas Department of Emergency Operations Center was not activated. But the Kansas Department of Emergency Management staff monitored the storms throughout the night. KDEM will work with Rush County and Russell County to further determine the extent of the damage.
