Northeast Kansas pastor says government should kill gays

(SENECA, Kan.) — A pastor in northeast Kansas is drawing national attention for comments he made about gays during a recent sermon.

Curtis Knapp is the pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas. In audio posted online, he says the following:

"Oh, so you're saying we should go out and start killing them? No, I'm saying the government should. They won't, but they should."

In an interview on Wednesday, Knapp compared homosexuality to the sexual assault of children. "We punish pedophilia, we punish incest, we punish polygamy and various things. It is only homosexuality that is lifted out as an exemption."

Knapp says he simply preaches God's word but added, "I don't think homosexuals have anything to worry about. I don't think the government is going to do that. They don't have anything to worry about from me. I don't believe I should lay a finger against them. My hope is for their salvation, not for their death."

Knapp's comments come after video of a pastor in North Carolina calling for gays and lesbians to be put in an electric pen and allowed to die off went viral on YouTube. Charles L. Worley gave his sermon after President Barack Obama said he supports gay marriage.

Days later another video, this time from a church in Indiana, went viral. It shows a young boy singing "I know the Bible’s right, somebody’s wrong...ain't no homos gonna make it to heaven." The congregration stood up and applauded.
