Coffee maker recalled after people suffer burns

(WASHINGTON) — A popular Black & Decker coffee maker is being recalled.

Sixty-eight people have suffered cuts and burns due to the coffee pot handle breaking during use. The company has also received more than a thousand complaints of breakage.

Applica distributes the under-cabinet model of coffee maker for Black & Decker's Spacemaker line of products. The coffee maker was sold nationwide from July 2008 until last month.

Nine models and 159,000 Black & Decker Spacemaker coffee makers are involved in the recall.

Customers who own the coffee makers should stop using them immediately. Applica Consumer Products is offering customers who own one of the recalled models a free replacement.

The recall includes model numbers SDC740, SDC740B, SDC740BR, SDC740C, SDC740DIS, SDC740R, SDC750, SDC750C and SDC750DIS. The model number is printed on the underside of the coffeemaker.
