(WICHITA, Kan.) — Sedgwick County voters got to hear from two people who want to be the next District Attorney.
The Wichita Pachyderm Club hosted a forum with the two Republican candidates in the 18th Judicial District.
Kevin O'Connor spent several years in the DA's office before leaving. He most recently helped the prosecution in the Adam Longoria case.
O'Connor is running against Marc Bennett, a current prosecutor in the Sedgwick County DA's office.
Bennet told us, "I think my experience of the last 17 years as a prosecutor gives me the insight to know how not to run an office of this size. It's not just prosecuting individualized cases one at a time. There are 50 attorneys, 70 support staff and eight million, this is a big enterprise".
O'Connor says, "Right now, we have a U.S. Attorney that's out there talking about the issues the district attorney ought to be talking about, so we need a full time district attorney that's representing us and you're not going to make the changes in this office by somebody who is currently in that office".
The primary election is August 7.
