Sheriff accused of selling meth resigns

(HAYS, Kan.) — A northwest Kansas sheriff charged with nine counts of distributing meth resigns.

Rooks County Sheriff Randy Axelson had been on administrative leave since his arrest. The Hays Daily News reports Axelson provided his notarized resignation to county officials on Thursday. The paper reports he had continued to earn pay while on leave.

Axelson is currently out on bond awaiting trial on the nine felony counts. He is required to wear an electronic monitoring device. The Ellis County Attorney is serving as special prosecutor in the case.
