After a cold start to the 41st Annual River Festival here in Wichita, skies will be mostly sunny today with temperatures heating up. Highs will climb to the 80s, with the warmest temperatures found out west.
Clouds will be on the increase tonight with scattered showers and storms developing after midnight as a warm front over Oklahoma moves into the southern portions of Kansas by morning. Overnight lows mostly in the 60s.
That warm front remains in place over southern Kansas and will be the focus of both morning showers and storms and another round of showers and strong thunderstorms during the afternoon. There is a slight risk of severe storms over south central and eastern Kansas during the afternoon. Hail and damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat. Highs will reach the upper 80s and 90s with the warmest locations in southwest Kansas.
