“Last thing I heard from her was, from what we think, was five minutes before it happened and we never heard from her again,” said Axtell.
Police say just outside Emporia the girl’s car crossed the center median striking a semi head-on.
“When I first heard I cried a lot. I didn't know about Kyle. I knew that Holland had died instantly, and I was hoping Kyle would pull through,” said Kyle’s best friend Riley Ablah.
So it was heartbreaking news when police said both sisters lost their lives. Riley is just thankful Jessica pulled through.
“I'm happy she lived. I hope I can see her soon,” said Ablah.
In life, friends remember Holland as an incredibly giving person, an artist, and a wonderful girlfriend. They describe Kyle as someone who never cared what anyone else thought. She was accepted to K-state and had ambitions of becoming a veterinarian.
"Marty and I said probably the hardest thing is, is that we worked so hard to make independent and healthy adults. And they were well on their way. They were going to make a contribution to this world," said Lori Moody.
Axtell cherishes his weekend with the girls in Tennessee.
“This last weekend was awesome. It was one of the greatest weekends I've ever had. I'm glad that that happened at least. We all had a very good time,” said Axtell.
“Kyle and Holland both were beautiful people and are in a better place now and I'm really happy they don't have to go through pain. I'm happy it ended quickly and they didn't suffer,” said Ablah.
"I'm very fortunate to say that the last thing that I said to her was that I loved her," said Kyle's friend Pamela Horton. "And I got to hear the same thing back."
Andover Central High School will hold grievance counseling on Thursday starting at 9 a.m. through at least noon. The 48-year-old semi driver was not seriously hurt, but a 44-year-old passenger in the truck was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, texting and alcohol have been ruled out.Andover sisters killed in car crash
