At this rate, Clint Bowyer may never want the month of June to end. The number 15 team has scored top 10 finishes in each of the three races so far this season. The latest a seventh at Michigan this past weekend.
"Last weekend (at Michigan) we had a good car," said Bowyer. "We made a bad decision at the end, didn't put tires on the car and it cost us. But those are the little things that you learn, and as long as they are little things it's easy to perfect those and get them down pat."
Bowyer has also been a very busy man off the track these days. He spent Wednesday playing in the pro-am golf tournament at the Wichita Open. And as much as he enjoys playing golf, he will be the first to tell you, he much better at that other kind of driving.
"It's gonna be a little bit rough to start," said Bowyer who admitted he hadn't played in about a year. "But I was watching (Jim) Furyk our fellow 5 Hour Energy guy at the open and I'm gonna try to keep it out of the tree, it seemed to cost him."
Bowyer will also be holding a big grand opening party on Tuesday the 26th for his community building in Emporia. The facility has actually be open for several months, but this party is a formal party with Bowyer and a few of his friends, country star Blake Shelton and NASCAR personality Kyle Petty.
"I'm hoping that hosting this concert and having Blake Shelton come out to Emporia is something the people here will remember for a long time," said Bowyer. "We don't normally get big name stars and events to come here and do things in our community. This is going to be a very big deal and not only that - it's going to be one heck of a good time and raise money for the community."
As for this weekend's racing, it's the first time this season NASCAR will be making right turns and not ending up in the wall. Bowyer has quietly positioned himself as a pretty good road racer, with three top fives and four top 10's in seven starts at Infineon Raceway. He will need to continue his success. The points race is tight, and Bowyer is hanging on to his spot in the case right now, sitting in ninth after 15 of the 26 races before NASCAR's playoffs.
