(WINFIELD, Kan.) — One of the two men who escaped from the Winfield Correctional Facility over the weekend is back in custody. Authorities say escapee 48-year-old Frank Crutchfield was apprehended in Wichita Wednesday morning.

Crutchfield was found inside a residence in the 400 blk. of south Volustia.  A tip from Crimestoppers led authorities to the suspect, the Kansas Highway Patrol made the arrest.

Inmate 52-year-old Robert Cook is still on the run.  The two men escaped from the Winfield Correctional Facility Saturday afternoon. They took a state owned truck which was located Sunday about 15 miles north of Winfield.  It is believed they stole a City of Douglass vehicle after wards.

Anyone with information about Cook is asked to call 911.

Eyewitness News spoke to a neighbor that saw everything unfold on Volustia.

"It's a nice area, we don't have any problems...so I don’t normally see the cops out this early in the morning", says Rhonda Lukken.

She reported seeing several cop cars near her home driving very fast in different directions.

It’s not the first time both men have escaped from behind bars. The department of corrections shows Crutchfield and Cook escaped from custody in the 1980's.

So why were they serving time in a minimum security prison?

Corrections officials tell us an inmate’s security status is determined by how they behave in prison...not necessarily on their criminal history.
