(EL DORADO, Kan.) — They hope her death helps raise awareness of child abuse.

18-month old Jayla Haag-Watters died in March from what the coroner says was blunt force trauma.

From her death came the organization 'Justice for Jayla.' The group, started by Jayla's grandmother is raising awareness of child abuse.

Sunday afternoon they held an event in El Dorado's East Park. Besides having snow cones, hot dogs, and raffles, organizers also gave out education materials dealing with domestic violence and child abuse.

"It comes in all walks of life," says Jayla's grandmother, Marci Beattie. "It doesn't matter where you come from, I just hope I don't ever say that it can never happen to me because it can happen to any of us."

The organization is looking to raise $25,000 dollars to have a nursery put into Jayla's name at a new children's home being built in Andover. They also hope to bring a children's home to Butler County as well. All the proceeds raised at Sundays event go to the Justice for Jayla Memorial.
