(Wichita, KAN.) — "I got a cousin that lives down the road from where it happened, so she was kinda freaked out about it," said Troy Carson. The father of three was spending the day with friends and relatives in the small town of Towanda. Parents in the Butler County town didn't relax much today, concerned after what investigators say was an attempted abduction

A teen says a man tried pulling her into his car. She tells investigators the attack happened last night in Towanda.

“But you don't expect something like that to happen in Towanda, that's for sure,” added Carson.

The victim was accustomed to walking along the cemetery, by herself, to visit family.  And that's exactly what she was doing Tuesday night, shortly after 8:00pm, when a vehicle passed her, turned around and came back.

“When he came back he had the window down on the driver's side and said something to her about, ‘Look what I got on this piece of paper.’  So she walked over to look at the paper and that's when the gentleman grabbed her,” said Kelly Herzet, Butler County Sheriff.

The 15-year-old girl managed to pull free from her attacker and run for help.  She then was able to help officers draw up a composite sketch.

She described the driver as a white man in his 40s, with salt and pepper hair and a goatee.  He was wearing a tight, faded blue t-shirt with cargo-style khaki shorts and had a tattoo on his left arm that included blue ink.

She told police he was driving a boxy, blue 80's-style car with rust and chrome bumpers.  There was a dent on the rear passenger door and a Calvin and Hobbes decal on the lower right hand corner of the rear window.  She even got a partial plate, saying it was from Kansas and included the numbers 6 and 2.

“Yeah, I think she (did) an excellent job, you know, for as scared as I'm sure she was,” said the Sheriff.

“We absolutely teach our kids ‘don't talk to strangers’,” said Carson.  “I mean, from day one.  But....“

No matter how safe a parent thinks their child is, it can never be safe enough.

“I don't know what I would do.  I'd freak out, for sure, go after the guy,” ended Carson.

If you recognize the man or have any information about this case you are asked to contact the Butler County Sheriff.
