(WICHITA, Kan.) — A woman comes home to catch two burglars in the act. They got away with things like electronics, but the suspects left behind one large item that led police right to them.

“On Facebook I subscribe to "slap the stupid people," and this is almost a story that should be on “slap the stupid people” because this is really stupid,” said homeowner Shirley Biggins.

Biggins and her daughter left their home for 25 minutes late Sunday morning. It was enough time for two men to break in and rummage through their items.

“Luckily I had come after a brief time. I caught them in the act and watch them run out the back door which was very freaky and scary,” said Biggins.

The thieves got away with jewelry and electronics. They are items Biggins never thought she'd see again, but the burglars made one key mistake. They left the getaway car not one block away from the burglarized home.  Police had staked out the area. Police say a girlfriend of one of the robbers came back to pick up that getaway car. She led police straight to that stolen property and to a nearby apartment where police arrested two 19 year old men. Police recovered the daughter's cell phone in which the contacts were erased and replaced with the suspect's friend's numbers. Police also received a camera with new pictures.

“Our two suspects took a picture of themselves with the stolen property,” said Lt. Doug Nolte of the WPD.

“I looked at my camera and saw a video of a woman and a child I don't know, and so I gave it to the detective and they said this is the woman that lent them the car,” said Biggins.

Biggins is shaken by the incident, but had a message for the burglars.

“Crime doesn't pay. Obviously you're going to get caught eventually, but that's just stupid.  Don't break into my house,” said Biggins.

Police took the suspects into custody for aggravated burglary and theft.
