CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — AJ Allmendinger's business manager released a statement on Wednesday morning that provided more insight in the what may have caused the driver to test positive in a random drug test by NASCAR.
Tara Ragan said in a statement released to the media that Allmendinger rested positive for a stimulant, and was "slightly above the threshold." The statement also says the driver has no idea why the first test was positive and is gathering his over the counter medicines and supplements to try and determine the source of the positive test.
Allmendinger was temporarily suspended from NASCAR competition on Saturday after the positive test. The random test was taken after the race at Kentucky two weeks ago.
Sam Hornish, Jr.drove Allmendinger's #22 Penske Dodge at Daytona and is scheduled to drive it again this weekend at New Hampshire.
