(near BENTON, Kan.) — A Butler County fire claimed the lives of an estimated 2,500 hogs Wednesday afternoon. The fire broke out at a hog farm outside of Benton.
By the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the 300 x 60 ft building housing the hogs was fully engulfed in flames. It took fire crews from Benton, Towanda, Whitewater and Potwin to put out the blaze.
It is believed all the hogs died in the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
