Wingnuts continue to struggle, lose 5-2 to KC

The Wichita Wingnuts (33-21) lost 5-2 to the Kansas City T-Bones (30-26) at Community America Ballpark on Saturday night.


With the Wingnuts leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Pat Trettel led off with a solo home run to left field against Wingnuts' starter Ryan Hinson.


Trevor Coleman hit a solo shot to left leading off the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Later in the inning, Trettel and Spiker Helms added back-to-back singles, while Justin Bass was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Devin Goodwin drove in the go-ahead run, beating out a potential double play groundball to shortstop.


Lee Cruz cracked a solo home run leading off the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-2.


Goodwin drove in Kansas City's final run with an RBI single to center in the bottom of the seventh.


Hinson took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits in six and one-third innings. Hinson struck out seven and walked one.

Josh Rainwater earned the win for the T-Bones, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits in six and two-thirds. Rainwater walked one and struck out four.


Mike Mehlich pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to earn the save.


Jairo Perez led off the top of the second with a long home run to left-center to give the Wingnuts an early 1-0 lead. Consecutive errors from Coleman at first base and Rainwater on the mound gave Wichita runners on the corners with no outs. Jared McDonald produced Wichita's second run on a groundball double play to second base.


Kansas City committed six errors in the game. Jared Simon worked one and one-third scoreless innings in relief of Hinson.
