(WICHITA, Kan.) — It was quite a sight for some Wichita drivers overnight - as they had to share the road...with a plane. The Kansas Aviation Museum moved the small plane from their facility to Jabara Airport in the early morning hours.
Aviation Museum Executive Director Lon Smith says the 15 mile trip went off without a hitch, thanks to planning and help from the Wichita police department.
The move is part of a partnership between the museum and the National Center for Aviation Training. Once a year, the museum supplies the school with a plane, and students take it apart, repaint it, restore it, put it back together and give it back.
Smith says it's a win-win situation...their planes need restoration and the students need practice. He says planes are on display outside, so the Kansas weather can really take a toll.
