(WICHITA, Kan) — Those who like organic and natural foods have more shopping options than ever in Wichita, now one of the biggest names in the country is coming.

Whole Foods Market announced it plans to build a 30,000 square-foot store on the east side, two other similar food stores opened on the east side in the last year.

As you drive around Wichita you can clearly see there's a new trend. Organic and all-natural grocery stores are the "in" place to shop…but that hasn't always been the case.

"It truly was a challenge, people just weren't into it", says Green Acres president Barb Hoffman.

When the organic grocery store came to town 18 years ago...business was a bit slow...people didn't know what to expect when they came inside.  Hoffman says those days are behind them.

"Every day we see people that we have never seen before".

Hoffman adds the Wichita market can support more grocery stores like the one they run.

Stephen Clark who manages the Waterfront development agrees...that’s why he helped bring in the nationally known Whole Foods to Wichita. It's set to arrive on the east side in the fall of 2013.

"It could change the landscape of retail in Wichita”, says Clark.

Dillons grocery stores are well aware of the arrival of Whole Foods.

"When it comes to some of our new competition that we have seen in Wichita our main goal is to listen to our customers”, says Dillons representative Shelia Lowrie.

Over the past couple of years Dillons has elevated its emphasis on an all-natural section...and say it will continue to raise the bar.
