Former K-State teammates to meet in Kansas Amateur final

NEWTON, Kan. — Teammates from the Kansas State University golf team will face off in the 36-hole final of the 102nd Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship.  Ben Juffer, a senior to be from West Des Moines, Iowa, and recently graduated Kyle Smell of Overland Park, advanced to the championship following quarterfinal and semifinal action at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton on Saturday.  In the first semifinal, Smell defeated University of Kansas golfer Chris Gilbert, 3 and 2.  In the second semifinal, Juffer bested Fort Hays State product Kevin Quinley of Salina, 2 and 1.  The 36-hole final match will begin at 7:00 am on Sunday, July 29th at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton.
