July 31, 2012|By John Boyd | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(HAYS, Kan.) — A western Kansas man crashes his motorcycle and dies while fleeing the Hays police.  Hays police say 32-year-old Ryan McGinness was driving a 2012 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle in a reckless manner Friday evening.

An officer noticed him speeding, running a red light and several other traffic infractions.  The officer tried to catch the motorcyclist, which sped up to speeds around 100 mph.

Police say the pursuit lasted less than a minute when the motorcycle went out of the officer's sight, then crashed near Highway 183 and Golf Course Road. Police tell us McGinness failed to negotiate the curve there.

Police say he was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

The KHP Critical Highway Accident Response Team (CHART), the Ellis County Sheriff's Office and the Ellis County Coroner's office assisted in the accident investigation.
