(WICHITA, Kan.) — The wife of a Wichita police officer involved in one of eight officer involved shootings is speaking out.

She contacted Eyewitness News to share what it’s like for the families of officers involved in shootings.

“Our home has been in turmoil because of it,” the woman tells Eyewitness News.

We can’t go into detail or identify her because the case is still under investigation.

“For the rest of our lives…for the rest of our lives we’re going to have to live with it,” she says.

She wants people to understand that no officer wants to be forced to take a life.

“Nobody wants to be forced in that situation.”

Since her husband’s incident the family has been in counseling.  He’s also had to have hard conversations with his children.

“Yes he did and they cried and he cried…we all cried.”

She came to us in response to protests and negative comments found on social media.

“It hurts…my husband is a human being. I know him…they don't know him.”

She also knows those who lost their lives have families too.

“I am very sorry they have lost loved ones.”
