Veteran's stolen service dog hit on I-135

(PARK CITY, Kan.) — A dog stolen from a veteran who lost both is legs in an IED attack in Afghanistan was hit by a vehicle Friday night along I-135.

Ryan Newell says a man and women stole his dog Red from 61st and Hydraulic around nine o'clock Friday night.

Newell posted on his Facebook page two hours later than although someone recognized the dog but couldn't reach the dog in time.

Park City police are still looking for the suspects who stole Red. They are described as a white male, about 6' tall with a slim build and a trimmed beard. He was with a white woman, 5'4" tall, medium build with blonde hair.

Police are also looking for a silver Ford F-150 pickup with a 60 day Kansas tag.

At least one friend on Newell's Facebook page has offered him a puppy as he deals with the loss of his companion.

Newell lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan.  In 2010, he was arrested for stalking members of the Westboro Baptist Church.  Westboro members protest military funerals, claiming soldier deaths are God's punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

Newell later plead guilty lesser charges of impersonating an officer. He was sentenced to two years probation.
