(WICHITA, Kan.) — Tuesday is Primary Day in Kansas. Several races will be decided in the primary because there is no opponent in the November 6 General Election.

Among the races to be decided in the Wichita area are District Attorney, Sedgwick County District 3 Commissioner, several Senate seats, 5 judicial seats and the Kansas Board of Education, District 3

If you are a registered Republican, you can vote in the Republican primary. If you are registered Democrat, you cannot change your party affiliation on election day. You can vote in races with a Democratic primary, although there are not very many this time around.

Registered voters who are unaffiliated may affiliate with either the Democratic or Republican party at the polling place on election day and vote that party's ballot.

Because of delayed redistricting, you may not be in the same district for state races that you were before.

All Kansans need to remember to bring their photo IDs to the polls in order to vote.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach predicts 18 percent of all registered voters will cast ballots.

Voters affiliated with one of the three minor parties recognized in the state (Americans Elect, Libertarian and Reform) do not participate in primary candidate elections. About 0.6 percent of all registered voters are affiliated with a minor party.

Unaffiliated registered voters may vote a Republican ballot on election day by filling out a registration form at the polling place to affiliate with the Republican Party.

Unaffiliated registered voters may vote a Democratic ballot on election day merely by requesting one. They do not have to affiliate with the Democratic Party first.
