Storm Team 12: Hot Sunday - changes on the way

August 11, 2012|By Meteorologist Dean Jones | Storm Team 12

The weekend will end hot and dry for most, however the weather pattern is changing to "cooler" and "wetter" this week.  How much cooler? - how about 80s.  Some locations in Kansas may only manage the upper 70s later this week.

Plenty of sunshine this afternoon.  Cooler, behind a "cold front" that is moving through the state.  Northwest Kansas highs should reach the upper 80s and lower 90s.  Meanwhile, areas south of the front should reach the middle to upper 90s, approaching 100 in southeast Kansas.

Cooler tonight under clear skies - you might catch a glimpse of a shooting star or two (Perseid Meteor Shower-yes, the peak was last night) during the evening (watch the northeast sky).  As you head out the door for work (and for some - school) temperatures will range from the mid 50s to low 60s.

The first half of the work week will be in the 80s and 90s, with a cooling trend towards the end of the week as a strong cold front surges through Kansas on Thursday.  As far as rain chances are concerned, we'll see a chance early Tuesday but a better chance late Wednesday and Thursday.
