(HARVEY COUNTY, Kan.) — A Hutchinson man faces several charges stemming from a fatal crash in Harvey County late Monday. Authorities say a pickup headed west on 1st Street in Harvey County struck a Saturn station wagon headed north on Ridge.
The driver of the Saturn, 52-year-old Donald Nickles of Hesston, is hospitalized in critical condition. A passenger in his car, 28-year-old Jessie Stroup of Altum, was thrown from the vehicle and died at Newton Medical Center.
The driver of the pickup, 40-year-old Bryan Reed of Hutchinson, was not hurt. He was arrested by the Kansas Highway Patrol on numerous charges, including DUI and vehicular homicide.
Wednesday, Reed was formally charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, as well as Aggravated Battery and Battery of a Corrections Officer. His bond is set at $100,000.
His preliminary hearing is set for later this month.
