Kansas town hopes giant egg boosts tourism

August 17, 2012|by George Taylor

(WILSON, Kan.) — Have you ever considered visiting Wilson Kansas?  Well soon you may have a reason to stop in the town of 800.

Wilson is now home to the World's Largest Czech Egg.  The egg is made of fiberglass and stands 20 feet tall and 15 feet wide.

Wilson already calls itself the "Czech Capital of Kansas" because of its Czechoslovakian heritage.

During the next year, the egg will be decorated and put on display in the town. A local art teacher will create a stencil for the egg and students will help paint it.

The project cost around $18,000 and has been in the works for about a decade.

The town hopes it will serve as a tourist attraction and draw visitors in from out of town.  The goal is to give people a reason to visit to help keep this small Kansas town going.
