(WICHITA, Kan.) — Wichita police say a 23-year-old man who was distracted by a crying child in the back seat struck two women with his car late Monday.
It happened at 135th Street W. and Maple around 9:40 pm.
Police say the man was going through the intersection when he was distracted by the child.
"As he turned back and was going through the intersection," said WPD Lt. Doug Nolte, "He didn't see there were two pedestrians in the crosswalk."A 38-year-old woman suffered a minor leg injury and didn't need medical attention. A 49-year-old woman was struck and rolled up onto the windshield of the car. She was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Police don't believe alcohol or drugs were involved, but they're awaiting toxicology reports from the driver.
No citations have been issued.
The police accident follow-up team will look into the crash.
