Valley Center to have county handle 911 calls

(VALLEY CENTER, Kan.) — The Valley Center City Council voted Tuesday night to eliminate the city's 911 dispatch center to save money. Calls to 911 will soon be handled by Sedgwick County.

There are currently 11 employees at the dispatch center, 4 full-time and 7 part time. The council voted to created a full-time public safety clerk position for one of those full-time position. The other ten people will lose their jobs.

Valley Center hopes to have the switch-over complete by January 1. Sedgwick County has been handling 911 calls in Derby and Haysville since last year.
