(WICHITA, Kan.) — Thousands went without power Friday morning across Sedgwick County. Westar crews worked around the clock to bring it back.

Westar energy reported about 3,000 power outages. The first big rain across Sedgwick County kept Westar crews on their toes. Westar says when you go from hot, drought conditions to wet, cool conditions, electrical equipment tends to fail. It’s a pain for customers at the downtown tag office, whose wait was extra long Friday morning.

“Considering the computers were down and the electricity was out we were thankful it's not taking us another hour or 2 because we have to go back to work,” said Abby Rooks.

The effects of just one snapped power line caused power outages on Kellogg between Greenwich and Webb. A Conoco worker says it's bad for business.

“We had to lock the door, the pumps wouldn't work, and we couldn't sell anything. We couldn't even let people in. That's our policy even to use the restrooms,” said gas station attendant Rachel Garcia.

Some say the outages are a minor inconvenience compared to the benefits that go along with the rain.

“We needed this rain. We'd go without power all day if we could get some rain,” said Colleen Davis.
