(WICHITA, Kan.) — Wichita police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of 8-year-old Kimbra Moore. Moore was hit by a stray bullet as she slept early Tuesday morning.

The suspect is 24-years-old. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail at seven o'clock Tuesday night. The suspect was arrested on charges of Felony Murder, Aggrvated Battery w/Firearm and Shooting at an Occupied Dwelling.

The shooting happened around 3:15 Tuesday morning near 31st and S. Broadway.  Police say there was a fight in the parking lot of Oak Apartments & Mobile homes and shots were fired.

"All of sudden I hear a boom and not knowing if it was like fireworks because of labor day or a gunshot…I told them just get down…get down," said neighbor Dusten McDonough.

When police arrived, they checked homes that had bullet holes in them, and that's when they found Kimbra dead in her room.

Eyewitness News spoke with a pastor who runs a weekly bible study for many of the residents in the area.  He says Kimbra's mother was home with her three children at the time of the shooting.

She told the pastor she checked on the children after hearing gunshot wounds, but thought the girl was sleeping.  It wasn't until police came in about a half-hour later that they discovered Kimbra suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The other two children, a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl, were not hurt.

Kimbra's mom was planning to move the family out of the mobile home this Friday.

Kimbra was a third grader at Enterprise Elementary School. Wichita Public Schools spokeswoman Susan Arensman says their crisis response team will be at the school to provide support to students today.

Police also found another victim at the scene, a woman with a graze-wound to the head. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the woman was in one of the mobile homes when a bullet came through a wall and struck her.  Her husband tells us she is okay, but she needed 12 staples to treat the wound.

Police are talking with a person of interest in the case, they're also looking for a 2001 black Ford Focus - Tag# 511-EVP.  911 dispatchers tell us police are looking for the vehicle in connection with the case.

Anyone who has seen this vehicle or knows where it is is asked to call 911.

"After all this, especially this tonight, we're gone. There's no reason to stay around this place," said McDonough.
