(WICHITA, Kan.) — After more than 1,500 people have signed a petition, the Wichita City Council said it will appoint a council to look into naming its airport after President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Jan Harrison, a morning radio host, gave a formal presentation to the City Council this morning, in an effort toward the renaming. She and Phil Thompson, her on-air partner, started the petition.
With a new terminal at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport set to open in 2015, the radio team said it's a perfect time for a name change, and that Eisenhower is an obvious choice.
The council agreed the idea needs further study. A committee will look into cost and other considerations in re-naming the airport before the council takes further action.
