Some rainfall reports for the 24 hour period ending at 7 A.M. Sunday . Wichita (Mid-Continent Airport) 0.28", Wichita (Jabara Airport - NE Wichita) Trace, Winfield - 0.40", Cambridge - 0.45", Mount Hope - 0.02", Norwich - 0.22", Coffeyville - 0.80", Sedan - 0.84". Not enough to put a dent in the drought, however anything and everything is a welcome relief. In the wake of this cold front, a high pressure center over Iowa will influence our weather today bringing a return of sunshine and a pleasant afternoon. Highs will range from the upper 80s in northeast Kansas, to the mid 90s in the south. Clear skies and light winds across central and eastern Kansas tonight will result in a relatively "cool" start to Monday morning, as overnight lows fall into the low and middle 60s. The "heat" returns Monday afternoon and continues through the week, however the oppressive 100 degree "heat wave" appears to be over for now. Highs should remain at or below 100 degrees the entire week.

Signs of the times---I heard someone typing on a typewriter yesterday and it took me awhile to recognize the sound. Rest well Fred--- I was saddened to hear of the passing of broadcaster Fred White earlier this week. I wasn't surprised that he'd kept his struggles with his health private, the last thing he'd ever want to have done was to draw attention to him. My first experience with Fred was with my ears-upon arriving in Wichita in...

She saw two figures running toward her son. The other, police say a 23-year-old man, was walking down the dark hallway toward Laurie. "He had his hand wrapped with either a towel or a t-shirt. And, he did have a gun in his hand,” Laurie said. But that didn't scare Laurie. "And then all of a sudden I honed in on the end of that gun and I could see an orange tip,” Laurie said.

The April 2012 tornado that attacked the Oaklawn neighborhood is still fresh in people's minds. But Dalana Morales says there hasn't been much weather this spring to remind people of that terrifying night. "I like this weather," Morales says. "You can come out, have barbecues, let the kids play. You don't have to worry about tornadoes. " While scars of the storm remain, families in Oaklawn are enjoying a much calmer spring this year. That's the case nationwide. The National Severe Storms Laboratory estimates there were only 197 tornadoes in the United States from last May to this April. That may be a record low. Compare that to the 2010-11 season, when there was a record number that topped one thousand.
