NASCAR driver Jason Leffler was killed in a short track accident at the Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro, New Jersey on Wednesday. The New Jersey highway patrol confirms Leffler died at 9:02 pm Eastern, after a crash in a sprint car heat race. Reports from the track say he was cut from his car and flown to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. Leffler most recently drove the No. 19 Humphrey Smith Motorsports car in the Sprint Cup series. He had his most success in the Nationwide series, where he finished third in the points standings in 2007.

A 37-year-old Wichita man dies in an overnight accident. That happened just after 2:00 Sunday morning at Allen and Meridian in Valley Center. the man lost control of his blue Ford Explorer, hit a curb, then struck a utility pole. First responders say he died on impact. His name has not yet been released to the public. A 42-year-old passenger was not injured.

The Kansas Highway patrol is investigating a deadly accident in Rooks County.  The accident happened Wednesday afternoon five and a half miles east of Plainville. It happened on a county road just  south of K-18. A dispatcher with the Highway Patrol says the accident involved two pickup trucks, one was pulling a cattle trailer.  The driver of the pickup was killed in the accident. The other driver pulling the cattle trailer was taken to the hospital. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

An investigation is underway in Rozel, Kansas, after an employee at the Golden Valley Inc. Rozel Grain Facility was in a accident. Mr. Rosendo "Manny" Ceniceros died after an accident on Wednesday morning. Ceniveros was a resident of Rozel. Golden Valley Inc., local authorities and OSHA are currently investigating this accident.

The Reno County Sheriff's office said that a motorcyclist had an accident with a deer Monday morning. At 7:15 a.m. a man struck a deer while on his motorcycle in the 25000 Blk S. Brownlee Rd. The man, whose family has not been located yet, is a residence of Reno County and was transported to St Francis Hospital in Wichita by Lifeteam Helicopter for undetermined injuries. The cyclist was wearing a helmet. The motorcyclist's name will be released when family has been notified.

A Reno County teenager is in fair condition after an accident. Around nine Friday morning, Reno County Sheriff's Deputies and Buhler EMS were dispatched to an injury accident with a person trapped in the vehicle a half mile east of Willison on 108th street. When officers arrived they found a one vehicle accident. The vehicle 0driven by 15-year-old Chase Guisinger was westbound on 108th when he lost control of the vehicle on the dirt road. He went into the south ditch, through two barb wire fences and struck a tree.

Even with night casting a shadow across the memorial sittig outside Gardiner Elementary, it can't shade how upset people are over what happened only 24 hours earlier. One visitor told us, "It makes me mad because it's preventable...it didn't even have to happen like that. " But it did. And it has people living in the area wondering how safe the road really is. "People just speed by, they don't respect the speed zones and we do need something to start getting done," said Juana Davile.

A pedestrian is hit and killed by an SUV in Goodland late Tuesday night. The accident happened around 10:30 at 17th and Broadway on the Goodland city limits. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a man was driving eastbound on 17th when 46-year-old Jeffrey Badgett walked into the roadway. Badgett died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

A 19-year-old woman died in the hospital hours after her car was hit in Butler County.  The accident happened around 8:30 Monday morning at SW 12th and Butler Road, two miles south of Andover. Authorities say Wendy J. Garcia died after her car was hit. Police tell us a pickup t-boned a passenger car.  Investigators say a witness saw the car run a stop sign, but police say the sun may have been a factor. Three children in the pickup suffered minor bumps and bruises, but are okay.  The driver of the pickup is in serious condition.

A recent study by the Association of the Air Medical Transport says there have been 5 fatal accidents this year. A baby from Texas has died after an accident in Sumner County. It happened on Highway 177, near South Haven, Friday afternoon. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Tabitha Rushing, 31, was driving north, when the SUV she was driving left the roadway. Rushing over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll. The driver was treated at the scene. A passenger, 6-year-old Ella Rushing, was taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment. Six-month-old Azura Rushing died at the scene. Investigators said the child was not properly restrained.

A motorcycle rider suffered critical injuries after his bike collided with a deer in Reno County. The accident occurred near 95th and Salt Marsh around 3:40 a.m. Saturday. The Reno County Sheriff's office reports Bradley Poe, of Larned, was riding his bike in the area, when he struck a deer. The accident caused the man's bike to slide into the ditch. Stafford County authorities found the accident about 10 minutes later. Poe was taken to a nearby hospital, then transported to Wichita for treatment.

A teen is air-lifted to a Wichita hospital after he's hit by a car while riding on his moped. The accident happened Monday afternoon at the intersection of 3rd & Severance in Hutchison. Witnesses tell Hutchinson police the 15-year-old was traveling eastbound on 3rd Street, when he ran a red light and was struck by a car traveling northbound on Severance. He was wearing a helmet, but it came off during the collision. The teen suffered a broken leg and a lump on his head. Hutchinson police say the accident is still under investigation, and no citations have been issued at this time.

Emergency crews rescue a woman Monday morning from what may have been an overnight accident. 911 dispatchers say the woman's brother called them around 8:15 a.m. after she called him to say she had wrecked her vehicle. Emergency crews found the woman, who is in her 50s, and the vehicle near Central and Maize. That is when they learned the woman may have been in the vehicle for hours before the rescue. She was taken to Via Christi on St. Francis in serious condition. Kwch Eyewitness News

Hays police are investigating after a pedestrian is struck by a train. The accident happened Thursday morning, just after midnight. Police got the report that a pedestrian had been hit by a train at a railroad crossing near 10th and Oak. Investigators say a 22-year-old man was hit by an east-bound Union Pacific train. He has been identified as Jacob Lee Corwin. The Hays Fire Dept., Hays Police Department, Ellis County Sheriff's Department and Ellis County EMS all responded to the accident.

One man is critically hurt after a motorcycle accident near Assaria. Authorities say the driver lost control of his bike on I-135, sliding across on-coming traffic and into the opposite median. He was flown to a Wichita hospital in critical condition. The Kansas Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident.

A man suffered minor injuries after a rollover accident in downtown Wichita. It happened near Murdock and Hillside around 3:45 p.m. Friday. Police said they were trying to stop the driver of an SUV for a traffic violation. The driver stopped the vehicle, then took off when the officer got out of the patrol car. Investigators said the officer could smell marijuana as he approached the car.   The driver turned onto Murdock from Hillside, clipped the curb and rolled. The chase lasted less than one minute.

A 96-year-old Wichita woman has died after suffering severe burns while cooking last week.  Police say Esther Cohoon was making coffee last Wednesday when her robe caught fire.  She died two days later. It happened just after 6:00 in the 3100 block of N. Wellington. Her grandson found her and was able to get the fire out. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with burns to her arms, head and back. Fire investigators will look into the incident.
