Wichita police are looking for the gunman who robbed a business in Southeast Wichita Thursday afternoon.  The robbery happened at Check Into Cash at Harry & Rock Road.  The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s.  He's around 6'5" tall and was wearing all black clothing and a Halloween mask similar to the one worn in the "Scream" movies. Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Valley Center Public Schools have cancelled school Friday at Valley Center Middle School. The district decided to cancel school because of a water main break. The break happened Thursday afternoon. The extent of any damage is not known. Superintendent Cory Gibson is meeting with administrators to decide how to handle school activities scheduled for Thursday night and Friday. Wichita police responded to several accidents Thursday afternoon. The accidents are believed to be weather-related. Rain has fallen in Wichita for most of the day. Police responded to accidents at 37th & Hillside, 47th St. S. & K-15, 47th St. S. & Clifton and Kellogg & Webb. There are no reports of serious injuries with these crashes. Drivers are urged to use caution when driving in wet conditions.

Kansas football head coach Charlie Weis released the following statement Thursday afternoon regarding KU junior college signee Ty McKinney “After discussing this matter with Ty McKinney, he has decided to wait until January to enroll at KU. Tomorrow (Sept. 7) he will take his last final exam and believes that any attempt to catch up academically at KU would be futile.” “Ty has three years to play two - which means when he enrolls in January, he would then have two years of eligibility to be played in two years.” “Ty intends to take extra classes at a junior college in preparation for January.

A man suffers critical burns after a grilling accident in north Wichita. It happened in the 1500 block of North Grove Sunday afternoon. Officials say the man suffered second degree burns to his back. He was taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters put out a house fire in El Dorado Thursday afternoon. No one was hurt when flames damaged the home in the 300 block of W. Kansas Thursday afternoon. Investigators are looking for a cause.

A power outage had some Wichitans suffering through a record 108 degrees Wednesday without their air conditioners.  The Westar Energy power failure impacted about 500 people, mostly in the College Hill area.  While it didn't last long, it led to a few scary moments.  But, there are ways to keep your home cool, even when the power is out. The outage started when a relay system failed at Westar's Mossman Substation a little after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday...

On an easy Friday morning, Jim Herman did everything he could to make sure he was around the weekend. "It's nice out here today," said Herman. "Nice that its not 107 (degrees) like it usually is. " Herman bridied five holes in a row on the back nine to fire a bogey-free round of 64 to lead at 12 under par. "Try not to think, two is enough or three is enough; you know let's make another one," Herman said. "Kind of got in my own way on the last hole maybe got a little anxious there and was ready for the round to be over.

Wichita State junior Aliphine Tuliamuk took second place today in the 10,000 meter run at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships.  Her time of 32:45:43 was just less than four seconds behind the winner, Texas A&M's Natosha Rogers. Tuliamuk still has one event left to run and that is the 5,000 meters this Saturday. Senior Brett Trudo took 11th in the javelin throw on Thursday afternoon while Lawson Montgomery and Todd McKown took 13th and 16th respectively in the 110 m hurdles.

A windy, hot and humid day is expected across Kansas today.  A cold front and dryline will be the focus this afternoon as these features combined to ignite strong to severe thunderstorms starting in western Kansas with storms moving into central Kansas after dark.  The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Moderate Risk of severe storms for sections of northcentral Kansas into Nebraska, while a Slight Risk of severe storms extends east and south to include Wichita.  Large hail and damaging wind gusts can be expected with these storms, however a few tornadoes may also develop.
