Alex Gordon matched his career-high with four hits and Yamaico Navarro drove in three runs to the lead the Kansas City Royals over the Baltimore Orioles 9-4 on Thursday night. The Royals sent 11 men to the plate in a six-run sixth inning to break open the game. The inning included eight hits with Navarro doubling home two runs and Chris Getz stroking a two-run single. Melky Cabrera and Billy Butler added run-producing singles in the inning. The Royals had 17 hits with every starter having at least one. Gordon, Cabrera and Butler, the first three Kansas City hitters, combined to go 8 for 14 with six runs, two doubles and three RBIs.

Kevin Millwood pitched effectively into the seventh inning, Jesus Montero hit a two-run homer and the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Saturday. Millwood (4-8) gave up one unearned run and six hits in 6 1-3 innings. He struck out three, walked one and was aided by two excellent plays from shortstop Brendan Ryan. Tom Wilhelmsen worked the ninth for his 13th save. Lorenzo Cain hit an RBI triple with two outs before Alex Gordon grounded out. Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas sprained his right knee while diving for a grounder in the first inning.

Sergio Santos threw a wild pitch in the 11th inning that allowed Alex Gordon to score, giving the Kansas City Royals a 2-1 victory Wednesday night. Billy Butler swung at a pitch in the dirt that got away from catcher A.J. Pierzynski and Gordon came home and scored with a headfirst slide to give the Royals their 10th win in the final at-bat. Chris Sale (2-1) retired the first two batters before walking Gordon, who went to third on Mitch Maier's single. Santos then replaced Sale.

Billy Butler hit two of Kansas City's four home runs to help the Royals snap a 12-game losing streak by beating the Cleveland Indians 8-2 Wednesday night. Butler's two-run blast off Ubaldo Jimenez (2-1) put the Royals ahead in the first. He added a solo shot in the ninth off reliever Jairo Asencio, following Alex Gordon's three-run homer against the reliever. Eric Hosmer's two-run shot in the fifth made it 4-0 - the Royals' largest lead since April 8, when they beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-3. Luke Hochevar (2-1)

Alex Gordon hit a three-run homer in an eight-run eighth inning and rookie right-hander Nate Adcock picked up his first big league victory as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 11-2 Saturday night. The Royals sent 12 men to the plate in the eighth and scored all eight runs after two outs. Six of the runs were unearned after an error by Twins first baseman Justin Morneau. Adcock (1-0), a Rule 5 pick from the Pittsburgh Pirates who had never pitched above Class Abefore this season, worked a scoreless seventh.

The Kansas City Royals have exercised their option on manager Ned Yost to keep him with the club through the 2013 season. The team announced the move Tuesday, six days before pitchers and catchers are due to report to the Royals' spring training home in Surprise, Ariz. Yost was hired in May 2010 to replace Trey Hillman. He signed a two-year extension that July that included a club option for next season. Yost is just 126-163 since taking over the Royals, but he's been credited with helping bring along one of the youngest rosters in baseball.

Alex Gordon and Billy Butler each hit a two-run homer and the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 7-6 on Friday night for their third straight win. Mike Moustakas delivered the go-ahead single in the eighth inning and Alcides Escobar added an RBI single three batters later for Kansas City. Trevor Plouffe homered for the Twins. Alexi Casilla had two hits and two RBIs, but Minnesota again struggled with runners in scoring position and dropped below the Royals for the worst record in baseball.

Kansas City pitcher Luis Mendoza was knocked out of the game in the second inning after being struck by a Brandon Allen single during the Royals' 8-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. Mendoza, who has allowed one run in 11 2-3 innings in four starts, bruised left hamstring and is day to day. Oakland was playing its last game in Arizona before leaving for Tokyo, where the A's meet Seattle in an opening two-game series next Wednesday and Thursday. Lorenzo Cain hit his third home run, and Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer each had two hits and drove in a run for the Royals, who won for the fifth time in six games.

Chris Sale won his eighth straight decision, Adam Dunn homered in his third straight game and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 2-1 Sunday. Sale (11-2) is 8-0 with two no-decisions since a May 12 loss to the Royals. He allowed one run and scattered a season-high 10 hits eight innings to lower his earned run average to 2.11, which ranks second on the American League. He struck out four and walked none. Dunn, who leads the league with 28 home runs, drilled a 2-0 pitch from Luis Mendoza (3-6)

Andrew McCutchen homered and drove in three runs, A.J. Burnett won his fifth consecutive start and the Pittsburgh Pirates finished their first sweep of an AL team in more than a decade by beating the Kansas City Royals 3-2 Sunday. McCutchen hit an RBI double in the first inning and hit a two-run homer in the third, giving Burnett (6-2) and three relievers enough support for Pittsburgh to win its fourth in a row. This was the 50th interleague series the Pirates had played since taking three in a row from the Cleveland Indians June 15-17, 2001.
