Area law enforcement officers issued 349 citations during Thursday’s 24-hour traffic safety exercise along the 21st Street corridor from Andover through Wichita to western Sedgwick County. Most of the tickets, 203 in all, were for speeding. There was one arrest for DUI. The An dover Police Department, the Wichita Police Department, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Update: We know what caused this garage to explode in Andover on Thursday. It can serve as a reminder to homeowners with older houses. Ground shifting can cause gas lines under floors to break and leak. It generally happens in older homes because current codes don't allow that kind of construction. The andover fire chief blames this problem for the explosion that killed an 84-year old man. Investigators aren't releasing his name until family out of state is notified.

Eighth-graders at Andover Middle School are studying the Boston Tea Party. Tuesday morning, U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt told them today's Tea Party movement basically wants the same thing as the original one: Fewer taxes and less government control. "The reason they adopted that name is they're trying to voice their disagreement in spending, borrowing and taxing," he said. Tiahrt, a Republican who just ran unsuccessfully for the United States Senate, took questions from AMS students for approximately 30 minutes.

Wichita State's basketball team might have to drive to Omaha this season instead of flying. Times are hard. Boosters may not be able to come through on donations like they used to. Gregg Marshall says his job description as Shocker basketball coach doesn't change a bit. "I'm still going to be asked to graduate players, represent the university in a first-class way and by the way, win some championships," Marshall said. "There's not going to be excuses about not getting to fly to Creighton.

Several tips lead to the arrest of two people accused of burglary at an Andover convenience store. On July 8, 2010, at 4:30 in the morning, Andover police officers responded to a burglary alarm at a convenience store. Surveillance video shows about ten minutes earlier, a white four door passenger car, possibly an Oldsmobile, pulled up to the store. The video shows a white male and white female shooting the glass door. Once inside, the female took at least one case of beer while the male shot one of the cash registers.

The Andover School Board says they've reached an impasse in negotiations for a new teacher contract. District officials say, in talks with the Andover Education Association, they have not settled issues of salary and district compensation for fringe benefits. The district says they have contacted a federal mediator to help the two sides reach an agreement. Students return to school in Andover August 19th.

It starts Monday night with a diagnosis of false labor "They sent us home about 8:00 or 8:30 and I guess the adventures started about an hour later. " Started and ended on Jonathan and Jessica Reiter's bathroom floor. "I was just thinking, I'm having a baby on my bathroom floor!" Jonathan called for an ambulance, but the baby wasn't about to wait. That's where 911 dispatcher Gretchen Fooshee enters Brody's story.

(WICHIA, Kan.) It's just an empty room now, but this summer, the gym inside the Christian Faith Centre will become a lunchroom. For four years, Pastor Wade Moore, and the Centre have provided summer lunches to kids through the school districts summer food program. "You see parents that bring their children in and you know that this is the only meal that this child is getting that day," explains Pastor Moore. Last year the church was among 26 sites kids could go to get breakfast for lunch, Monday through Friday.
